
WP9 – High-Brightness Electron Injectors
Chirping Cavity
This task develops a chirping cavity to increase the peak current of electron bunches through ballistic bunching directly after the RF gun. INFN-LNF will design an 8–10 cell travelling-wave S-band structure, optimised for beam dynamics along with physical constraints and RF power considerations. The cavity will be manufactured using INFN’s brazing-free clamped technology, with machining by COMEB, and assembly and low-power RF testing at INFN-LNF.
Transverse Deflecting Structure and High-Power Validation
This task develops a multi-cell transverse deflecting structure (TDS) to measure the variation in the beam parameters over the length the electron bunch. PSI will design and assemble the device using its tuning-free brazing technology, with precision machining of the components by VDL-ETG. After low-power RF testing at PSI, both the TDS and the chirping cavity will undergo high-power validation at PSI’s RF test facility to assess performance under realistic operating conditions.
